Falling into Football Season with "Interactive" Food Stations
Falling into Football Season with "Interactive" Food Stations
Fall is just around the corner and
I can literally smell it. I’m getting whiffs of chili, falling leaves, pumpkin spice,
and shots of Fireball (obviously). Along with fall comes the start of a new
football season. For my home, it means lots of visitors who would never leave
unless we lost electricity or I stopped feeding them….
When I first moved in with my
husband, I imagined that our autumn weekends would be filled skipping around
the apple orchard or sipping cider after a long day of antiquing. Over time I developed a new
appreciation for game day because I looked forward to having our friends and
family to our home!
The best part about hosting is that you don’t need to concentrate on just one activity like staring at a television all day. There are several ways to get your guests moving around and interacting with one another. By having "interactive" food, it can make a world of difference when it comes to feeding people of all ages. This means creating food stations or firing up the grill for DIY creations. It gets guests moving around and discussing their concoctions thus promoting conversations, banters, and (hopefully) embarrassing stories.
If you’re like me you can make your own creation followed by 2nd and 3rd helpings after you've analyze and customized all your guests’ inventions. Let’s be honest, this typically is a bad idea unless you have two extra days to take naps and eat Tums but either way, it’s a damn good time!

Kabob Station:
Kobobs are SO insanely easy and always a crowd pleaser. If
you let guests make their own, it’s even more appreciated because they can add
their favorite veggies, meat, and sauces. Ingredients can be purchased all at
one location and it can mostly be prepped ahead of time. All you’ll need is
someone to man the grill.
The spread:
- Wooden skewers. I suggest soaking these in water
for at least 2 hours. This prevents them from catching on fire oven an open flame.
- Meat: chicken, shrimp, or steak
- Veggies: zucchini, onion, sweet potatoes, and
peppers
- Sauces: Avocado crema, Chimichurri, and Hot Sauce. (Cholula is my favorite!)
- Seasonings: All purpose seasoning and garlic salt
Wanting some extra flare?
Make dessert kabobs with peaches,
pineapple, and cherries. You can serve with a side of vanilla ice cream or drop
it in a warm cup of mulled wine! My mouth is watering…

Walking Tacos:
Walking tacos are loved by all ages.
You can get creative
with your display but, also keep it simple by opening a few Tupperware of
toppings and plugging in a crock pot of meat. It’s my favorite “on the go”
tailgate options since cleanup is so easy.

Want some extra flare?
Try this recipe with carne asada. I’m
talking about the carne asada you buy at a Mexican grocery store that has been
marinating in delicious seasoning. You won’t regret it.
